Instant Pot Mutton Curry

Mutton curry is an Indian curry dish that is prepared from goat meat and vegetables. Although very popular in Northern India, mainly in Bengal region, this dish is found in different variations across all states, countries and regions of South Asia. 

In most Indian households, mutton curry holds a special relevance and is mostly associated with celebrations and special occasions so much so that most festivities are incomplete without a hearty meat delicacy. 

Instant Pot Mutton Curry

This curry is indulgent and a delight to the palate. Served as a main course, this curry which is made from the goodness of goat meat can be served over rice or with nan, roti or paratha. This recipe is made with oil or ghee to retain the taste of meat with an amazing aroma that the spices used offer. The use of heavy cream and yogurt add to the richness and creamy taste of the curry.  Make this curry when you are having guests they are going to love it.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lbs mutton
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 3/4 cup Heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup of tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 tablespoons each of crushed ginger garlic and green chili
  • 1/4 cup of cilantro and mint leaves each
  • Lemon slices to garnish

Instructions
 

  • In an instant pot saute the mutton with ginger, garlic and green chili in 6 tablespoons of oil for 5 minutes
  • Add half cup of water and salt to taste
  • Close the lid and pressure cook for 10 minutes.
  • When all the steam is released open lid
  • Keep on saute mode and add to it all the dry spices and mix well
  • Add the tomato sauce and yogurt and stir well
  • Stir constantly and add 1 tablespoon of ghee
  • When the gravy thickens a little add the fresh cream, mint and cilantro.
  • Cook for another 3-4 minutes or till the mutton is nice and tender
  • Garnish with lemon wedges
  • Serve over rice or with nan, roti or paratha
  • Drizzle little fresh cream (optional)
