This time I made old traditional desserts ( and bread pudding for those who can’t have this) for my neighbors, friends and people in the community that don’t have family close by!! It’s Eid after all ?
Sheer Khurma – roughly translated sheer = milk and Khurma = dates. It’s rich and yummy and steeped in tradition! Happy Eid everyone ???
It’s an old recipe made with milk, nuts, sugary dates and vermicelli. This recipe dates back from the times of trade along the old Silk Road.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup of chopped cashews ,pistachios and almonds
- 1/4 cup of raisins
- 6 seedless dates chopped
- 1 cup vermicelli
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 2 cup milk
- 1 cup half and half
- 4 tablespoons condensed milk
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- A pinch of saffron
Method
- Boil the milk in a heavy bottomed pot.
- Add the cardamom powder, half and half and condensed milk
- Cook on low heat and get the milk to boiling point cook until the milk thickens a little.
- In another pan heat 1 tablespoon of ghee
- Fry the nuts for 3-4 minutes and remove from pan
- In the same pan roast the vermicelli and since they are already roasted it will not take long to turn into light golden brown.
- Add the vermicelli, nuts and dates to the milk and cook for 5-7 minutes on medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Turn off heat serve and garnish with saffron and nuts
- Enjoy!
