This is an old fashioned recipe handed down to me by my mother. It is easy to make, adds a great finishing touch to lunch or dinner and has lovely texture. A versatile yummy pick me up or a holiday dessert. Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 1 packet Hawaiian bread rolls ( I used the 12oz 12 rolls package)
- 1 cup half and half
- 7 cups milk
- 7 teaspoons of condensed milk
- 1/2 cup milk powder
- 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons ghee or butter
- 1/4 teaspoon saffron
- 1 cup chopped nuts & dried fruits (cashews, almonds, pistachios and raisins is what I used – you can pick and choose per your preference)
Method
- Take the rolls and cut them into halves .Lay them on a baking tray and lightly butter them on both sides.
- Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
- Bake the bread for 20 minutes (10 minutes on each side)
- Turn off oven and let sit
- Take a pot and heat 7 cups of milk on medium heat
- Add to it half and half, condensed milk, milk powder, cardamom powder, sugar, vanilla extract and saffron
- While the milk is boiling take the bread and cut into cubes
- Add the bread to the milk and fold it in
- Add 2 tablespoons of butter or ghee
- Cook on medium for 10 minutes stirring often
- The turn the heat to low and let it cook till all the milk is gone stirring occasionally
- Mix in the nuts & dried fruits (leave some for garnish)
- Let it cool for 15 minutes
- Garnish with your choice of nuts. Enjoy!
