Potato patties are known as Aloo Tikki in India. It is a popular street food and can be made at home easily. There are many  variations to this recipe. It is basically mashed potatoes with added spices. You can add vegetables or lentils (for example split pigeon peas) as a filling. I went ahead and used  Poha or flattened rice (optional) as a binding agent. If you don’t have it you can you use bread crumbs and flour as binding agents. To make it healthier I added some vegetables this way kids who don’t love veggies eat it happily as they are all mixed in the mashed potatoes that every kid loves. Adding  Poha to the mixture makes them very crispy.

These patties aka tikkis can be pan fried, shallow fried or deep fried. You can even deep fry them twice to get real crispy tikkis. They make an excellent tea time snack and can be used in burgers or sandwiches or just by itself. They can be served with different kinds of chutneys.

When the day is gloomy and cold this snack is the perfect choice to warm up your heart and  appetite.
