Meatball curry Indian (Kofta Curry)

This mouth watering meatball curry is very delicious and easy to make. While it is cooking it fills the house with its rich aroma. This curry is cooked with meatballs which are made with minced beef. You could also make these meatballs with half beef and half lamb to induce that  robust flavor. Indian spices and herbs are added to compliment the rich flavor of the curry. If you want to make it richer you can drizzle cream and ghee on the top. This curry can be served with rotis, bread or rice and a side of salad of your choice.

Ingredients
  

Kofta

  • 1 pound minced beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon garlic and ginger paste each
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Shan Karahi masala
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon tumeric powder
  • Oil to shallow fry

Sauce

  • 1 medium sized chopped onion
  • 1 cup whole milk yogurt
  • 4 Roma tomatoes
  • 2 slit green chilies
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon of ginger and garlic paste each
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red chili
  • 1 tablespoon of fenugreek leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of crushed coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon of Shan karahi masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 3 tablespoons oil

Instructions
 

Cooking the meatballs

  • In a bowl mix all the ingredients to make the meatballs 
  • Make small sized meatballs and shallow  fry them till they are brown  

How to make the sauce

  • Take a non stick pot and put 3 tablespoons of oil and heat it on medium  flame 
  • To it add  the ginger garlic paste and fry till it lets out an aroma 
  • Then add the onions and cook till they are translucent 
  • To it add the Roma tomatoes, cover  and cook for about 10-15 minutes  
  • Take off the skin of the tomatoes and add all the spices and mix well 
  • Add to it yogurt and stir well 
  • Cook for another 10 mins and add salt to taste and stir in  the meatballs  
  • Add cilantro, green chilies and turn off flame  
  • Add julienne ginger to garnish
