3 cups washed Moong dal it need not be soaked as it is a soft dal 1 1/2 Roma tomatoes good size 3 tablespoons of sliced or crushed garlic 3 tablespoons of julienne ginger 1 sliced jalapeno or serrano pepper whatever you have 10-15 curry patta or leaves 1 tablespoon paprika 1 tablespoon cumin seeds 1 1/2 tablespoons of cumin powder 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil or ghee 2 cups water Salt to taste Cilantro to garnish
Gather all ingredients
Take a heavy bottomed pot
Heat it and put 3 tablespoons of oil
When oil is hot add the curry leaves and let them crackle
Throw in the ginger, ginger, garlic and green chili and stir well till it lets out an aroma
Add the moong dal and mix well
Add the tomatoes and fold them in
To it add all the dry spices and stir well
Add two cups of water
Cover and cook for 25 minutes until dal is soft and the water is evaporated (15 minutes on medium heat and 10-12 on low to medium heat )
Moong dal is now ready!
